Simone di Castri Member, Advisory Council

Simone is the Regulatory Director of Mobile Money at the GSMA, the industry trade association that represents nearly 800 mobile operators worldwide and 250 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem, including handset and device makers, software companies, equipment providers and Internet companies, as well as organisations in industry sectors such as financial services, healthcare, media, transport and utilities. In this role, Simone provides support to regulators and mobile financial services providers to address the regulatory barriers that prevent them from launching, scaling and serving low-income customers. He is also leading the implementation of the Code of Conduct for Mobile Money Providers. Prior to joining the GSMA, he was working at the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI), a network of 100+ financial sector regulatory authorities, where he managed AFI’s grant portfolio in Latin America and Francophone Africa and established the working group on financial consumer empowerment and market conduct regulations. Simone has also worked as Policy Analyst at the World Bank/CGAP, and Microfinance Junior Project Manager at the International Development Law Organization (IDLO). He is a lawyer and holds a PhD in Law and Economics.
