Lead Specialist for Africa, Smart Campaign
Nadia van de Walle is the lead specialist for Africa at the Center, where she is responsible for directing Africa programs and partnerships for the Smart Campaign. In this role, she designs and oversees implementation of the Campaign’s regional strategy for Africa and MENA, manages Center programs, including the Responsible Microfinance Facility and Consumer Protection Supervision working group, and conducts research and impact analysis on Africa and MENA markets.
Nadia has 5+ years of professional experience in consumer protection, financial inclusion, social performance, and financial-sector development in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. Prior to joining the Center in 2013, she served as an analyst at Kobre & Kim LLP, serving as the international programs coordinator at Washington DC’s Urban Institute, where she conducted and managed economic development research in some of the world’s biggest cities, as well as graduate school internships with Millennium Challenge Corporation in Tanzania and the Private Capital Group for Africa in Washington.
Nadia holds a master’s in economics from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies and a bachelor’s in political science from the University of Pennsylvania. She is bilingual, in English and French.
