Capacity Building Consultant, The Smart Campaign
Bonnie Brusky has over sixteen years consulting experience in microfinance. Specialized in social performance and client-centered research, Bonnie works extensively with Smart Campaign as both a trainer in the Client Protection Principles and Smart Assessment methodology, as well as an assessor and tools development specialist. In addition to her work as with the Smart Campaign, Bonnie is a senior advisor to The SEEP Network under the MasterCard Foundation Responsible Finance for Local Leadership in Sub-Saharan Africa Program, which works with 8 Microfinance Associations throughout Africa. Since 2007, she has worked with French NGO CERISE to develop and refine their social audit tool, Social Performance Indicators and Social Assessment tool for Microfinance Investors. Her deep knowledge of the topic led CGAP to call on Bonnie in 2011 to help revise the curricula of four courses disseminated in francophone countries, in order to integrate the latest developments in social performance management and client protection.
A seasoned professional with rural and urban field experience in Africa, South Asia and South America, Bonnie has honed her project management and evaluation skills as a consultant to international NGOs such as ACCION, Planet Finance, and multi and bilateral agencies such as World Bank, DFID, USAID, IDB. She is trilingual in English, French and Portuguese and founder/owner of Focus Conseil & Traduction, a translation and editorial consulting agency specialized in microfinance and international development. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Women’s Studies from UW-Madison and a Master’s-level degree in International Development Studies from Université de Paris-Sorbonne.
