Daniel Balson

Lead Specialist

Working with the Smart Campaign, Daniel plays an integral role in ensuring the success of the program by identifying strategic partners and assisting in developing an expansion strategy for Eastern Europe and Central Asia. He also manages outreach and communications, and will support the Smart Campaign certification program.

Most recently, Daniel was a Program Officer for Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan at a Washington-DC based, governance reform non-profit organization. There, he developed and managed strategic relationships with NGOs, government agencies and the development community. He also designed strategies to support local partner needs and institutional goals, created technical assistance programs to help regional NGOs, and implemented training activities.

Previous to that, Daniel worked as a Management Consultant for the Springhill Consulting Group where he provided client protection services by identifying, analyzing, and communicating investment opportunities across emerging markets.

Daniel graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government, and later received his Master of Arts in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. He is an active member of the Eurasia Foundation’s Young Professionals Network, and is fluent in both Russian and Spanish.
