Implementing Client Protection in Microfinance: The State of the Practice, 2011
By Daniel Rozas - Published: 2011
This report gives an overview of the current state of client protection in the microfinance industry. It explains the movement of stakeholders’ attention towards capacity building, implementation and certification. Implementation of the Client Protection Principles examines how the principles, including transparency and preventing overindebtedness, are addressed in MFIs. The report ends by stating that the current state of practice in the industry does in fact support the basic tenets of client protection. It also, however, puts forth the notion that MFIs have room to improve and that the industry as a whole can do more to ensure that clients receive full protection.
