What Is the Low Bar and What Is the High Bar on Client Protection?
By Elisabeth Rhyne - Published: November 2011
This publication examines the Client Protection Principles (CPPs) put forth by the Smart Campaign and explores how these principles can become motivating forces in the microfinance industry. It discusses the CPPs (Appropriate Product Design and Delivery, Prevention of Over-Indebtedness, Transparency, Responsible Pricing, Fair and Respectful Treatment of Clients, Privacy of Client Data, Mechanisms for Complaint Resolution) in context of both right and wrong methods for implementing the principles, putting the principles into practice, and advertising, reporting, verifying, and certifying the outcomes of the principles.
