This paper attempts to promote a greater understanding of the appropriate regulatory and supervisory approaches for MFIs. Drawing on the case studies presented in Occasional Paper No. 2, this publication outlines the risk profile unique to microfinance institutions, and makes recommendations to regulate MFIs, either within the existing regulatory framework or by establishing a special regulatory framework.
