The Center for Financial Inclusion regularly sponsors events (and panels at industry events) on a variety of financial inclusion topics with the intent to bring participants in the industry together to promote new ideas and to collaborate in tackling industry challenges.
The Center’s professionals also regularly speak at industry conferences on issues such as prospects for financial inclusion, client protection and avoiding overindebtedness, investing in inclusive finance, risk management and governance at microfinance institutions, access to finance for persons with disabilities, energy and microfinance, and more.

Governance Working Group Call: Shareholder versus Stakeholder Governance Perspectives

The Governance Working Group (GWG), which is housed by the CFI’s Investing in Inclusive Finance team, is hosting a debate on the North American (shareholder) versus European (stakeholder) views on governance. The keynote speakers will be Judith Mayer, research assistant at the chair in Entrepreneurial Finance at the Technische Universität München, representing the stakeholder perspective, and Lauren Burnhill, managing director of One Planet Ventures, discussing the shareholder perspective. This discussion will also include impacts of the stakeholder and shareholder perspectives on responsible exits, and updates on the GWG members’ current governance projects.
Society for International Development Annual Gala Dinner

Elisabeth Rhyne will be presenting at this year's Washington, D.C. Chapter of the Society for International Development's Gala Dinner. Rhyne will be honoring Maria Otero, Under Secretary for Civilian Society, Democracy and Human Rights at the U.S. Department of State, as well as speaking on the future of microfinance. The Dinner will bring together a diverse assortment of international development stakeholders, offering the opportunity to celebrate accomplishments and forge new relationships.
Microfinance as a Tool of Active Ageing

With people over the age of 60 now the world’s fastest growing age group, the Research Working Group of the European Microfinance Network has organized an ever-timely debate, “Microfinance as a Tool of Active Ageing.” This event will assemble an array of stakeholders to exchange ideas on how to ensure society harnesses the potential of an aging population. The event will include several rounds of discussion, as well as speaker presentations, including one from Marcella Corsi of Fondazione Risorsa Donna, who will share the work of the Financial Inclusion 2020 project amongst her larger presentation.
HBS-Accion Program on Strategic Leadership for Microfinance

Applications are now being accepted for the Harvard Business School-Accion Program on Strategic Leadership in Microfinance. The six-day program offers leaders from around the world an exceptional opportunity to connect with peers while engaging with some of the HBS faculty's foremost thinkers in business strategy and management. The program is open to senior executives of retail microfinance, banking, and other institutions interested in microfinance; or industry-related policymakers, regulators, and investors.
Council of Microfinance Equity Funds Meeting

Deborah Drake and Elisabeth Rhyne will be speaking at this year's second Council of Microfinance Equity Funds Meeting. The theme of the meeting is “Staying relevant in changing times.” The Council of Microfinance Equity Funds (CMEF) is the first membership organization to bring together the leading private entities that make equity investments in microfinance institutions in the developing world.
