FI2020 Progress Report

(October 2015) In the FI2020 Progress Report, we present our assessment of progress toward global financial inclusion through the lens of five topics: Addressing Customer Needs, Client Protection, Credit Reporting & Data, Financial Capability, and Technology. The report provides a qualitative and interactive assessment of who is doing what, celebrating the most significant accomplishments, and highlighting the gaps that constitute the agenda for the coming years. We’ve started each topic of conversation with a scorecard between 0 and 10. We invite you to use the interactive feature on the website to cast your own vote and compare your scores to ours.

FI2020 E-Zine: Three Essential Debates

(August 2015) Will microfinance continue to be relevant in 2020 and beyond? Should regulators or the industry lead on client protection? Will data analytics replace traditional credit reporting systems? Exploring Accessible Microfinance Solutions for All

There are several emerging changes that are shaping, and in some way revolutionizing, the way individuals access financial and banking services in the world. The evolution has many flavors. Depending on where you live, services vary, delivery channels can either be extensive or very limited, security either enables or creates challenges, and the use of digital and mobile solutions can either hinder or increase access for all. Policies like the United Nations Convention for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and many Human Rights play a big role in our ability to serve our microfinance clients and often influence, and at times dictate, what can be achieved to promote accessibility and independence. Most importantly, if there is lack of understanding between service providers and service users, all attempts to improve the customer experience can fall short or miss the expected outcome altogether. This can result in increased costs to achieve accessibility, lost revenues, unsatisfied customers, and a negative or potentially dangerous impact on privacy and security.

Sunday evening, October 27 from 19:00 – 21:00 (7:00pm – 9:00pm): An interactive networking and social gathering:

Through an interactive networking and a "town hall" style discussion, disability and business leaders were invited to share their experiences, discuss challenges, and speak about strategies or ideas that should be explored. Participants were encouraged to provide insights on the challenges they face when accessing financial services and adopting accessible solutions. This was a unique opportunity for Global Forum participants and disability leaders to have a candid discussion to gain a better understanding of what solutions may have a positive impact on inclusion.

Monday morning, October 28, 8:00 – 10:30: An informative exploration of what accessibility practices are being adopted and explored globally:

An international panel comprised of distinguished subject matter experts and leaders discussed the economic impact of inaccessible solutions, how it affects us all, and what is being done globally to close the accessibility gap. We discussed how financial service providers, IT providers, and persons with disabilities can work together to achieve digital equality and gain a better understanding of how to increase accessibility in this particular area of financial soundness and stability.
